Holiday Party by Karen Vibe

Holiday spirits were alive and racing at John Ascuaga’s Nugget in Sparks on the night of the Porsche Club Holiday Party.  Activity Chairs Karen Vibe and Karen Goody put together a great party and 47 club members were treated to a magical night at the beautiful Poolside Terrace room.  The room was decorated floor to ceiling with Christmas lights, candy canes, snowmen and other bright and colorful holiday decorations.    Every member looked especially fabulous, decked out in their finest holiday attire, and it was obvious we were in for a special evening.

Santa’s Elves were hard at work to create a memorable night for the Porsche Club.  We had the very best bartender (Skip) the Nugget had on staff to help us with our beverage selections.  Skip even had a few original concoctions up his sleeve to offer some of the members when they wanted to venture away from the standard bar menu.  Speaking of original concoctions (at least original drink names), the menu included a “356” (manhattan), “Boxster” (rum and coke) and of course the “Cayman” and the “Cayenne” (white and red wine).  Entertainment for the evening was provided by Larry Machado, his wife Julie and their local band, Brass Ackwards, which entertained us with a 7 piece dance band which played everything from Christmas music to swing to old time rock n roll.

The Holiday Buffet was nothing short of spectacular and the food seemed to go on and on.  Featured at the buffet table were veggies and cheeses, dinner rolls, many varieties of salads and finally a choice of Tri-Tip, Fried Prawns and Breast of Chicken Teriyaki.  Even with the “all you can eat” sign out, it was hard to take our eyes off of the dessert table which included quite a selection of sinful holiday desserts. Needless to say a majority of members indulged and sampled several of the holiday delights.

After dinner, President Craig Kugler recognized several new members who were attending the party including, Leslie and David Bentley, Rob and Shirley Sime and Dan Woods. Craig also called up each attending Board member to the stage and presented them with a nice bottle of champagne as a small token of appreciation for their service to the club. In the final formal presentation of the evening, Craig read off the accomplishments of the club’s Enthusiast of the Year and it was no surprise when Bob McLaughlin’s name was announced.   Congratulations Bob and well deserved.!

After the “business” was done, the band revved up the music and the dance floor was packed with Porsche Club members.  To get the dancing started, Karen Vibe started a conga line which eventually included almost everyone at the party as it snaked through the entire room, including the band stand, at the Poolside Terrace. After that the dance floor was crowded with members taking advantage of the great sounds of the band.

The night ended with a lot of smiles and well wishes for a wonderful new year.  Thank you for helping to make this year’s holiday party a great success and we look forward to an even better 2012.
