The calendar says its 2012, but we’re still reporting on the last two events from an exciting 2011. We report on the Volunteers Appreciation Dinner, which was held at a new location on short notice and it turned out wonderfully. La Posada Real was a great host for this event with excellent food, great service and staff enthusiasm to match ours.
The Holiday Party was a true extravaganza. The venue at the Nugget’s Poolside Terrace was exquisite, while the food, the bar (with the fancy Porsche drinks) and the desserts were first class. The music from Brass Ackwards (that’s not a typo) was nothing short of phenomenal. That’s as much member dancing as we’ve seen in years. What a great time!
Porsche seems to be making important industry news every month lately and they just announced the release of the new generation Boxster. We provide the Porsche press release to whet your appetite as the new series replaces the 987s introduced in 2005. Stay tuned for their release later this year — the car sounds amazing.
With the new year we want to thank those members who contributed articles and pictures for last year’s issues. It takes a lot of work to put the newsletter together each month and member contributions make it much easier. If you haven’t contributed in the past, don’t be shy. Writing an article about any Porsche related experience is welcome — it doesn’t have to be club related. It’s also a great way to get us to buy you a glass of wine at the next event!
Speaking of the newsletter, this opens our fifth and final year at the helm of The Circular. What a wonderful run it’s been. How many friendships we’ve forged, things we’ve done, places we’ve been and sights we’ve seen that would never have happened without being editors of your newsletter. It’s been its own reward. We believe it’s time to move on and let others excite you with their perspectives on events and activities. If you have an interest in this fabulous opportunity to serve your club, let us know.
Now sit back, relax and enjoy this edition of The Circular.

This edition is one that could have been about double the size. Three great events with so much to report on but limited space. It’s an occupational hazard for editors when they see great stories that have to be “edited” but we think you’ll get a good view of the interest and excitement from these articles.
Jeff Sepahpour reports on the Fall Wine Tour, this year heading to both El Dorado and Amador counties. Jeff and Sheri led a large group to wineries that most of us had never been to before. And the dinner at “Taste” was spectacular!
We report on the Yosemite Tour and we’re happy with the result after seeing all that snow in the Yosemite high country. Fortune smiled on us and it turned out to be a wonderful tour and a great way to get so many club members together in a more relaxed environment. Total fun!
Finally, Craig reports on Rennsport Reunion IV. This article could have been three times as long with all the activities, people, cars and excitement. Just picking out the highlights for the weekend put us over the space limit and there were so many other interesting stories it was just too much to include. Fortunately a lot of members attended and they can testify to the spectacle of this event. One non-car related point of interest was the weather, which turned out to make a Goldilocks weekend: Friday was too hot, Saturday was too cold but Sunday was just right.
Thanks to members who continue to provide pictures for the newsletter. Please keep it up; it’s much appreciated. Now sit back, relax and enjoy this month’s edition of The Circular.

This month’s newsletter is a little unusual as the events we report on aren’t technically club events. That’s not intentional but rather a reflection of the club schedule and the newsletter publication cycle. Suffice it say that the events are more than worthy of note and were attended by members.
First up, Craig writes about his need for a little relaxation … and what could be more relaxing than a weekend of Autocross. Well, it beats watching sports on TV all weekend so that’s a good thing. I think you’ll get it when you read it.
On to a joint article from Rich O’Larey and Bob McLaughlin, which reports on the Monterey Historics activities. We know it isn’t “The Historics” any more, at least not in name, but somehow the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion just does not have the same cachet. Whatever the name, the quality of the events of this annual August week in the Monterey area are still top notch and attract large crowds.
The last article this month is our report on PCA’s “other” big event — Escape. This year we had the opportunity to go and had a great time. Frankly, there was more available to do than we had time for, which means a return trip in the future. If you haven’t been to this event, plan to go the next time it’s in the West. It’s Parade without the competitive angst.
We want to mention that we’d love to have member articles on trips or other Porsche related adventures you may take on your own. If you are going somewhere or doing something of interest in your Porsche, let us know about it. I know our members would enjoy it as well.
October will be another busy month with much to look forward to. For now, sit back, relax and enjoy this edition of The Circular.

From the Sierra to Savannah to Stuttgart — we’ve got it covered this month. The combination of member articles and a Porsche press release help fill you in on what’s going on in our region and at Porsche.
On the Porsche front, the long awaited public unveiling of the “new” 911 occurred in August, somewhat upstaging the Frankfurt Auto Show. Porsche’s press release and the included pictures give us a pretty good idea on the changes to the new model Carrera. From the sounds of it there’s a lot going on with the “991,” from more power, better mileage and additional room.
John and Alice Strom provide a lovely overview to their Lake Almanor Drive & Dine tour. The drive sounds exciting and we may have to ask John for the route map so we can do this on our own since we had to miss it.
This year’s member report on Porsche Parade comes from Bob McLaughlin, who flew to Savannah to take part in this annual rite of summer for Porschephiles. Bob only casually mentions the heat and humidity he encountered, which means he had so much fun he didn’t have time to worry about the weather. Due to space limitations, we were only able to print an edited version of Bob’s article. See his full version on our website — it’s very entertaining and interesting.
Our Tech Q&A focuses on Carrera 997 questions submitted to the PCA.org Tech gurus. This month Dustin Aydt from SVR addresses several member questions on wide ranging issues.
With lots going on in September, next month’s issue should be a good one. For now sit back, relax and enjoy this edition of The Circular.

This month’s offerings cover a wide geographic range: from the Nevada/Utah border to the western slope of the Sierra Nevada; from the heights of Mammoth Mountain Resort to the oldest settlement in Nevada. This varied geography goes along with the variety of the events involved: That’s what makes them interesting.
First up is Su Kemper’s report on her tour’s journey to Volcano. This unusual name conjures up images much different than those Su found — scenic and perfect Porsche roads, over high mountain passes and past beautiful alpine lakes.
And the lunch sounded great as well.
Curtis Fong recounts the adventures of his tour group as they made their way all the way across Nevada and back, exploring some of the more interesting sites and small towns around. Jail cells, underground caves, ice cream parlors and train museums — what a trip!
We report on the 4th of July celebration in Genoa known as Pops in the Park. This annual event continues to draw large crowds for its great music and small-town patriotic charm. Club members like it for its relaxed atmosphere and camaraderie. Oh, did we mention the gelato? Yum!
Finally, we report on a PCA Cayman Registry event, hosted by SNR club member Mark Coronado. Mark invited us down to Mammoth for this special three-day weekend and we thoroughly enjoyed our time with fellow Caymanites who came from various places in the west.
For now sit back, relax and enjoy this edition of The Circular.
